It all begins in a small factory that produced copper sulfate in the commune of San Miguel, in Santiago, until, in 1951, after several structural changes, Quimetal Industrial S.A. officially begins its activities in Chile.
The company begins to produce Acoidal. Because there was no dryer, the sun was used in the summer months to dry these products on the roofs. Later, in 1958, the first dryer was built.
Thanks to the commercial opening of Chile and the incorporation of new products, the export business is opened to other countries. During that year the company exported up to 25 tons of copper oxychloride to Colombia.
After purchasing shares, the businessman Ricardo Claro Valdés and the German chemist, Hans Hanke, obtain control of the company.
The recession of the Chilean economy in the early 1980s hit the company hard, however, it managed to overcome the years of crisis.
Formation of the company Protección de Madera Ltda. after alliance with the company Hickson Timber Products. They currently operate in Chile under the Lonza-Quimetal brand.
