Description
Why is Magnesium (MgO) important?:
- Component of chlorophyll: Magnesium is a key component of the chlorophyll molecule; without sufficient magnesium, plants cannot produce chlorophyll efficiently, which negatively affects their ability to photosynthesize and, therefore, to grow and develop properly.
- Enzyme activator: Magnesium acts as a cofactor for many important enzymes involved in plant metabolism. These enzymes play key roles in the synthesis of carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids, as well as in the regulation of fundamental cellular processes.
- Nutrient absorption and transport: Magnesium facilitates the absorption and transport of other nutrients in plants. It aids in the mobility of carbohydrates and the formation of energy compounds, which is crucial for the plant’s overall growth and development.
